Ferie Agosto
August 2009 — Updates
“I bring fresh showers for the thirsting flowers, From the seas and the streams; I bear light shade for the leaves when laid, In their noonday dreams”Percy Bysshe ShelleyThe CloudSo saith Percy, in a poem written (supposedly) during a sojourn in Bagni Di Lucca, c.1820. It comes to mind as the first true rain in almost a month has just fallen and, yes, you don't need the ears of a BFG to hear the hillside rejoice.
August is always slow, with this one heavier than most - a regular near 40 degrees with attendant humidity. Nevertheless, while the local builders/plumbers etc have taken a well-deserved break, there has been sporadic forward movement (witness paving stones etc) and the Anglo-Irish imports have been on the case with the first signs of interior decoration. Another truck-load of furniture and doors (soo expensive locally) from UK next month should see the Great Leap Forward long awaited. Then hopefully we'll have somewhere plush to put the bank manager and his wife when they come to survey the 'Investment' in October.. (I hope they like camping)
